PS4 Controller Tester (DualShock 4)

How to read this · August 22, 2026

To test a PS4 DualShock 4, connect it with a micro-USB cable or pair it over Bluetooth, then press any button so the browser picks it up. This page opens the tester with the DualShock 4 layout, so labels match the Share and Options buttons and the shape face buttons. Press each button to confirm it registers, hold the sticks centered to measure drift, and pull L2 and R2 to check the analog triggers.

The DualShock 4 is one of the most reused PC controllers, so verifying it before a session is worthwhile. All testing is local to your browser with nothing uploaded. The drift test is the quickest check: worn DualShock 4 sticks commonly develop a resting offset, and the tool reports the exact percentage and direction so you can decide whether the stick module needs replacing.

Press any button on your controller

Wired controllers are detected right away.

On Bluetooth, press a button to wake the connection.

How to connect PS4

  1. Wired: connect a micro-USB cable to the DualShock 4. Note that some cheap cables are charge-only and will not carry data.
  2. Bluetooth: hold the PS button and Share until the light bar double-flashes, then pair "Wireless Controller".
  3. Press any button after connecting so the browser exposes the gamepad.

Common PS4 problems

Stick drift and cap wear

DualShock 4 sticks drift with age, and the rubber stick caps tear. Center both sticks and run the drift test; a persistent resting offset means the potentiometer has worn.

L2 / R2 trigger spring

The trigger return springs can weaken so a trigger rests slightly pressed. The trigger bars here flag any resting value above zero as a possible stuck trigger.

Charge-only cables

A very common false alarm: the controller charges but is not detected. That is almost always a charge-only micro-USB cable. Try a known data cable or pair over Bluetooth.

FAQ

My DualShock 4 charges but is not detected. Why?

Most likely the micro-USB cable only carries power, not data. Swap to a data-capable cable, or connect over Bluetooth instead.

Can I test the touchpad click?

The touchpad click registers as a button on the standard mapping. Press it and watch for a button light in the map, though touch coordinates are not exposed to the browser.

Is the DualShock 4 drift test accurate?

It measures the resting position your controller reports. A steady offset in one direction is a reliable drift signal; random jitter around center is normal.
